ProLinQ CD Sharer's TurboCaching Offers 55X Performance At An 8x Price
PC EXPO/NEW YORK, June 17, 1997 - Axonix Corporation, a leading network appliance manufacturer, announced today that it is shipping the ProLinQ(TM) CD Sharer. The ProLinQ CD Sharer with hard disk caching is a totally integrated network appliance based on Axonix's powerful TurboCache(TM) technology, offering users 55X performance at an 8x price. With street prices beginning at $1,575, the ProLinQ CD Sharer product line supports up to 14 CD discs at a cost almost half of the average 8x 14 drives tower. The ProLinQ CD Sharer is a fully integrated network appliance which operates completely independent of any file server and provides a simple, plug and play network connection, allowing up to 250 users to access hundreds of CD-ROM titles at the same time without negatively impacting file server or LAN performance.
FIRST EMBEDDED CD SHARER TO SUPPORT LOW COST 55X PERFORMANCE
Unlike other hardware caching-based servers, the software caching of Axonix's TurboCaching technology enhances the data transfer rate of the ProLinQ CD Sharer to 8 Mbytes/second, allowing users to achieve 55X performance at a very cost effective price. TurboCaching also reduces access times to 10 ms. In addition, because the ProLinQ CD Sharer is based on open X86 architecture, changes to the network or its topology are fully supported. Users can add drives, clients, and sharers without affecting network
Performance. Up to 128 Mbytes of standard SIMM memory can be added to enhance RAM caching.
THE PROLINQ CD SHARER IS A TOTALLY INDEPENDENT CD SHARING APPLIANCE
Because the ProLinQ CD Sharer is based on a self-contained, modular server technology, it does not require NLM software (NetWare Loadable Modules) or other network interface hardware or software to be loaded onto the file
server, greatly simplifying configuration and setup. The Axonix ProLinQ CD Sharer supports both TCP/IP and IPX protocols, allowing users to share CD-ROM drives from any Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.x, OS/2, or DOS workstation
on a Novell or Windows NT network. As many as 250 users can access up to 112 CD-ROM drives using LUN (logical unit) addressing technology to simultaneously share databases, video training, and software programs.
The ProLinQ CD Sharer incorporates a modular controller with embedded software and 8 Mbytes RAM, and a tower enclosure. It can be configured with up to 14 single disc drives or 56 discs using an optional 4-disc changer. Users can choose from network connections for 10BASE-T/2 Ethernet, 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet, or Token Ring 4/16. Installation is simple and involves plugging network cabling into appropriate connections; the ProLinQ CD Sharer can then be accessed using existing commands on the user's network. No additional software or hardware is required.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Value-added resellers can configure the ProLinQ CD Sharer to meet specific needs by bundling options for network connections, number of CD-ROM drives, and CD disc changers. The ProLinQ CD Sharer ranges in price from $1,575 for a system with one 6x CD-ROM drive and a 10BASE-T/2 connection, to $7,955 for a tower with fourteen 8x CD-ROM drives, one 4-disc changer, and 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet or Token Ring 4/16 network connections. All ProLinQ CD Sharer models include Ornetix's award-winning CD-Commander, a seamless, plug and play graphical CD title management software package ($1,500 retail value).
CD-Commander eliminates hours of work through its remote global CD title installation, automatically installing new titles on individual workstations and eliminating the need to purchase additional per-user software licenses.
