AXONIX ANNOUNCES FIRST NETWORKED ISO COMPATIBLE CD-RECORDING APPLIANCE
ProLinQ CDR Sharer Is Only Independent, Multi-Protocol CD-R Solution
PC EXPO/NEW YORK, June 17, 1997 - Axonix Corporation, a leading network appliance manufacturer, announced today the ProLinQ(TM) CDR Sharer, the first network-ready CD-Recording appliance that operates fully independent of the file server and is 100 percent backwards compatible with defacto industry ISO 9660 level 1 standards. The ProLinQ CDR Sharer is the only networked CD-Recorder that supports multi-protocols, allowing users on any Windows 95, Windows NT, or Windows 3.x workstation to record CDs right from the desktop over both Windows NT and Novell networks. Up to 250 users can share the ProLinQ CDR for data archiving, quick CD duplication, software publishing, custom CD-ROM distribution, multimedia production, and document image processing.
Unlike other CD-Recording devices, the Axonix ProLinQ CDR Sharer is a networked CD-R appliance, which operates independent of the file server. It does not require network administrators to load NLM software modules, Proprietary CD-R drives and other network interface hardware or software onto the file server. It is different from file server-dependent CD-R recording methods because the ProLinQ CDR does not cause long delays to other Users on the network during a typical 30 to 60 minutes record session. In addition, the ProLinQ CDR lets users record CDs from any location in an office because it does not have to be physically attached to the file server. "Until now, there hasn't been a simple way to make CD recording sharable across the network without the hassle of installing and supporting a recorder on a file server," said Doug Kihm, Vice President of Engineering at Axonix.
"Anyone who wanted to share a CD recorder had to load software and hardware onto the file server first, or use non ISO level 1 formatting which is incompatible with most of today's CD-ROM readers. That's no longer the case. The ProLinQ CDR Sharer is the only totally integrated, ISO compatible solution which operates independent of the file server-once it's plugged into the network, it's ready to go in minutes," Kihm said.
PROLINQ CDR SHARER OFFERS UNCOMMON FEATURES
The ProLinQ CDR Sharer can be bundled with custom hardware to suit a variety of network needs. All models include a modular controller; a 4x write/6x read CD-R drive, and a 1.2 GByte SCSI hard drive. Users can choose from 10 Mbit Ethernet, 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet, or Token Ring 4/16 network connections. In addition, an external SCSI port allows users to add up to five external peripheral SCSI devices as needed. The ProLinQ CDR can also be bundled with an optional 4-disc 8x CD-ROM disc changer for easy CD to CD-R duplication and title sharing.
All ProLinQ CDR models include CDWriteIT(TM), a simple two-step CD-Recording utility that lets users record CDs by simply dragging and recording selected files, and Ornetix's award-winning CD-Commander(TM), a seamless, plug and play graphical CD title management software package worth $1,500 retail. The ProLinQ CDR supports LANs that are running both IP and IPX protocols and is compatible with Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.x, NetWare 3.x, and NetWare 4.x operating systems. It is compatible with over 25 CD-R drives, including the Kodak 75 Disk Transporter, so system integrators can configure a custom system to suit their needs.
THE PROLINQ CDR SAVES TIME AND MONEY
In addition to its plug and play features, the ProLinQ CDR is also a very cost-effective solution compared to other multi-user networked CD-Recording devices. With an estimated street price of $2,995 for the base model, the
ProLinQ CDR Sharer costs thousands of dollars less than installing and supporting multiple CD-R workstations. "By designing a CD-R sharer which does not require expensive network and file server hardware and software,
Axonix is offering all the convenience of networked CD-Recording in addition to a whole set of new, and much needed features other systems simply don't provide," said Michael Hickey, President of Axonix. "What's really
significant about that, however, is that Axonix is offering a totally self-contained, plug and share solution at a much lower price," said Hickey.
