ProLinQ is First Server To Network Both Read and Write Storage Drives, Fit Into a Tower Bay, and Support ard Drive Speeds
SALT LAKE CITY, April 28, 1997 - Axonix Corporation, a leading portable CD-ROM drive manufacturer, announced today the ProLinQ CD Server, the first modular, CD-ROM network server to fit into a tower bay, and network both read and write storage drives. With the announcement, Axonix marks its entrance into the network application server market with the fastest and easiest way for up to 250 users to share hundreds of CD-ROM titles, CD-ROM drives, and storage devices. The ProLinQ CD Server is the core technology behind a full line of peripheral sharing network devices Axonix will introduce over the next six months.
UNIQUE READ AND WRITE TECHNOLOGY AND OPEN X86 ARCHITECTURE
The Axonix ProLinQ CD Server is a totally integrated hardware and software solution, which lets any network user access up to 112 CD-ROM drives using LUN (logical unit) addressing technology. As many as 250 users can simultaneously share databases, video training, and software programs on hundreds of CD-ROM discs. Unlike other CD servers, ProLinQ supports both read and write technology which allows users to share data by accessing CD-ROMs over networks at a speed equivalent to 55x CD drives. In addition, ProLinQ is the only network CD-ROM server based on an open X86 architecture which allows for future upgradability to new Intel processors.
ProLinQ is the only upgradable CD server which operates completely independent of any file server, eliminating the need for NLMs (NetWare Loadable Modules) and greatly simplifying configuration and setup. Users can access files directly without negatively impacting the file server's performance or integrity. The ProLinQ's modular 5-1/4" bay form factor provides a unique and flexible hardware solution which VARs and system integrators can easily configure to meet the needs of virtually any workgroup or large enterprise. For the first time, VARs can configure a network appliance, which lets users economize by sharing common storage drives such as CD-ROM, hard disk, removable hard disk, and magneto-optical.
WORLD'S FASTEST INTEGRATED SERVER
Using Axonix TurboCache hard disk caching, ProLinQ is the fastest integrated network server in the world today, with a data transfer rate of up to 8 Mbytes/second. ProLinQ's TurboCache offers users close to a 700 percent increase in data transfer performance over typical 8-speed CD servers. ProLinQ also supports ultra high-speed network connections with Fast Ethernet (100BASE-TX) and Token Ring network interface cards from vendors such as SMC and 3COM. It supports 10BASE-T and thin Ethernet network connections as well. Installation is simple and involves plugging network cabling into the appropriate connections. In addition, ProLinQ is the only CD-ROM server that allows users to mix different SCSI mass storage devices such as read/writable CD-ROMs, hard disk drives, and removable Jaz(TM Symbol) drives. This new technology offers VARs and users a cost-effective way to add additional mass storage for caching data or backing up file servers or workstations.
INCLUDES GRAPHICAL CD TITLE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
The ProLinQ CD Server includes Ornetix's award-winning CD-Commander(TM Symbol), a seamless, plug and play graphical CD title management software package. CD-Commander eliminates hours of work through its remote global CD title installation, automatically installing new titles on individual workstations and eliminating the need to purchase additional per-user software licenses. CD-Commander features extensive CD title metering, and security and toolbar graphics.
